There's been an update to the location of 2014 KBJD Convention. For more information, please visit their website, www.kbjdshow.com.

2014 KBJD SHOW has changed the convention Hotel location to Westin Los Angeles Airport due to many collectors who live in out of state of California interested in our KBJD Show. The original Line Hotel is a good hotel but Line Hotel is a boutique hotel which couldn't accommodate our convention size anymore. So we would like to ask apologies for everyone and we would like to introduce the new hotel location with many benefits.

Before: Line Hotel - 3515 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90010 (4 Stars) Discount Rate $159.90

NEW HOTEL: Westin LAX Hotel - 5400 W Century Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045 (4 Stars) Convention Discount Rate $110

Benefits:

- Larger rooms (share rooms to save money)
- Lower rate $110 instead of $159 (save almost $50 per night)
  • Kings: $110
  • Doubles: $110
  • Triples: $125
  • Quad: $140
- Free Wifi internet for convention attendees.
- Free shuttle bus between (LAX) Airport to Hotel (about $100 roundtrip for taxi cost from LAX)
- Hotel will provide 60% parking discount for people check-in to hotel using our discount rate for collectors driving from Northern California and San Diego
- For our local collectors using public transportation, there is FLYAWAY bus from Orange County and Union Station to LAX to transfer to WESTIN hotel shuttle bus at the airport. Or you may take METRO to Airport Station as well.
- Huge Lobby area & same or bigger size of rent places for the convention compare to Line Hotel (4 times larger)

We hope our change was not making any inconvenience to our dolly family and we hope you like this hotel.

If in case if you have already booked Line Hotel, please let us know, we will help you with the refund.

New Hotel’s code will be provide via email (info@kbjdshow.com) today to individual preregisters.

The general contact and event operator is the fabulous Ms. Cholong. You can contact her at the following website for attendee and vendor registration. The preliminary schedule is posted here.

Doll collectors can register for $165, and it looks like several types of single day passes are also available, ranging from $28-70. I believe dinners are limited to 100, so be sure to register early.

San Diego BJD Convention

San Diego BJD Convention by alington
San Diego BJD Convention, a photo by alington on Flickr.
This year's theme, for the fifth annual San Diego BJD Convention, was Naughty Nautical. As you can see, only two of my girls were dressed to the theme--and they were in the beach-y category.

The turnout was really good--my guess would be close to 75, though I don't know the official number.  We packed in that room pretty well. The $10 entrance fee gave us a goodie bag and all-we-could eat chicken nuggets, tater tots, sun tea, and non-alcoholic grog, which was excellent.

It was great to see all the various vendors, and especially to see Ms. Cholong with DollHeart. I also had a great time after the weekend with Megann of MegannArt.

You can see additional photos on Flickr.

There will be a convention next year, too--and the theme is Feisty Fairytales. Start planning your outfits now!

Lauren's Poem

Atlanta BJD Convention by alington

The Atlanta BJD Conventionby Lauren Rasmussen
At the airport we were late.
The airlines made us wait!
I didn't know I'd miss the cats.
But I did see a lot of hats!
I helped set up the table,
But the BJDs weren't very stable.
Despite counting sheep
I still couldn't go to sleep.
There were lots of people in the hall.
I dressed up like my doll.
I saw a person wearing a wig
And a doll that was very big.
It was full of noise
And I got some toys.
Grownups played games--
They acted insane!
I had a great time,
And that's the end of my rhyme.

See you in Atlanta!

I'm on my way to the Atlanta BJD Convention, where I'll have a table. Please stop by and say hello! I'm easy to recognize, and I don't (usually) bite, even with jet lag.

I'll be teaching two panels while I'm there:
2:45 pm and 7:15 pm on Friday (one on how to write a book, and one on basic photography).

I'm bringing along a little helper (my doll enthusiast daughter) and also a precious goodie from Peak's Woods--a generous donation you won't want to miss--and you'll want to stop by to check out Peak's Woods' wonderful dolls in person. I can't wait to see you there!

Meet me in St. Louis! - a review

Lady Alice (Peak's Woods), holding a miniature copy of my book, Ball-Jointed Dolls for Beginners
Save the date:

November 15-17, 2013
St. Louis, MO

Make time, book your flight! More information will be coming soon.

I attended this year as a guest--and I had an absolute blast. I am planning to do all I can to get back next year. I have never in my life met a doll group so enthusiastic and welcoming!

Not only did I sell out of my books, I was surprised and delighted to have Tricia, one of the event coordinators, meet me at the airport (at 11 PM at night) to take me to my hotel (even when there was a free shuttle). She also arranged for a ride to the meeting site the next day--which I didn't even need, since I was able to get a lift with other very friendly attendees also staying at the hotel.

The hotel was nice and quiet. The meeting facilities were huge. The food was great. The people--oh my goodness! They were all wonderful. Even the staff whose parents volunteered them for the day were enthusiastic. (I even got a free movie review!)

I felt welcomed and at home, and my classes were well attended, and I hope the attendees felt like they learned something new. I was able to meet lots of people I'd only ever "spoken" to online. It was really fun. There was a great raffle and even better auction, too.

So make time on your schedule--and save your money! There was tons of great goodies in the sales room. You'll want to be there next year! (And if someone from there invites you as a guest--don't hesitate! Say yes!!)
