KBJD Show - location change - Westin LAX Hotel

There's been an update to the location of 2014 KBJD Convention. For more information, please visit their website, www.kbjdshow.com.

2014 KBJD SHOW has changed the convention Hotel location to Westin Los Angeles Airport due to many collectors who live in out of state of California interested in our KBJD Show. The original Line Hotel is a good hotel but Line Hotel is a boutique hotel which couldn't accommodate our convention size anymore. So we would like to ask apologies for everyone and we would like to introduce the new hotel location with many benefits.

Before: Line Hotel - 3515 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90010 (4 Stars) Discount Rate $159.90

NEW HOTEL: Westin LAX Hotel - 5400 W Century Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045 (4 Stars) Convention Discount Rate $110

Benefits:

- Larger rooms (share rooms to save money)
- Lower rate $110 instead of $159 (save almost $50 per night)
  • Kings: $110
  • Doubles: $110
  • Triples: $125
  • Quad: $140
- Free Wifi internet for convention attendees.
- Free shuttle bus between (LAX) Airport to Hotel (about $100 roundtrip for taxi cost from LAX)
- Hotel will provide 60% parking discount for people check-in to hotel using our discount rate for collectors driving from Northern California and San Diego
- For our local collectors using public transportation, there is FLYAWAY bus from Orange County and Union Station to LAX to transfer to WESTIN hotel shuttle bus at the airport. Or you may take METRO to Airport Station as well.
- Huge Lobby area & same or bigger size of rent places for the convention compare to Line Hotel (4 times larger)

We hope our change was not making any inconvenience to our dolly family and we hope you like this hotel.

If in case if you have already booked Line Hotel, please let us know, we will help you with the refund.

New Hotel’s code will be provide via email (info@kbjdshow.com) today to individual preregisters.

By the way--I've registered, and I'll be there! (I can't wait!)

New LE Tristan - Fairy of Color Black - from Peak's Woods

FOC LE Elf Tristan
She's new, she's limited, and she goes on sale on January 31 through February 28, 2014 at Peak's Woods. There are two different sculpts available.

Above - Elf Tristan is a new Fairy of Color, available in four colors - suntan (!!), grey, white or normal. She includes a wig, glass 16mm eyes, and sculpted elf ears (which are painted but not pierced). Basic Lolita hands are included, unless you order the special hand parts with long nails.

Below - Vampire Tristan is also available in those four colors, and has pointy ears and sculpted vampire fangs. She also has the option of special hands.

Full prices aren't listed yet--but it looks like the LE face-up will add $90, the limited hand parts will add $25-30, depending on the color, nail art will add $40, and heel feet will add $25-30, depending on color.

Interestingly, Tristan won't be added as a basic doll. And I see a new name under face-up artist--Bhar. The style looks a little different, and I adore the nails!

You might have a problem...

Lady Bee and Rex by alington
Lady Bee and Rex, a photo by alington on Flickr.
... if your BJDs not only have custom laser-cut chairs, but also start adopting cats.

Ack!

We have now decided whose person Rex's is, at least. I think he has chosen Lady Bee. You can see their entire introduction on Flickr.

My son pointed out to me that he technically still needs a litter box. We shall see. (Did I mention my oldest son is 14, and full of... incredible ideas?)

UK's RoseDolls Charity Raffle - and store closing!

Directly from RoseDoll's website--please pay them a visit for a great cause!

Charity Raffle!
RoseDolls are holding a charity raffle with awesome prizes to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Further to our 50% discount just recently announced, we will be donating the remaining 50% of sales of our in stock items directly to the charity fund.

With our greatest regret, we wish to inform everyone that we will be closing. After the raffle is complete and money donated to charity, we will be officially closed. We invite you to read on about our last endeavour!

Why this charity/ What is it all about?
In 2010, in the United Kingdom alone, 325,000 people were diagnosed with cancer. That is 890 people a day. In addition, it is estimated that 1 in 3 people will develop cancer in their lifetime. (Source: Cancer Research UK).  Cancer has, and will continue to affect the lives of millions- not just those diagnosed, but also their family and friends who care for them. It is something close to the heart of RoseDolls and was chosen not only because of this, but due to its existence and prominence all over the world. This is significant, as we know this message will reach a BJD community worldwide.

This charity uses it’s donations in order to fund cancer research, thus the development of treatments for many types of cancer. This has benefited the lives of countless people affected and with further funding will undoubtedly help save more lives. To find out more, please take a look at the official charity website:  http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/
Every single penny raised will go straight to Cancer Research.

Meet Rex, my latest BJD Pet by Eve the Cat. He is so cute! Strung, cast and resin, he is just too cute.

My cats are less impressed, though. Check out his first photoshoot on Flickr.

Remember Megu?

Megu by alington
Megu, a photo by alington on Flickr.
Here she is in the afternoon sunlight (almost none in my living room)--after her new face-up by Leah Lilly from FroggyDuds, and my thought is... she is simply perfect.

She's wearing Mint on Card glass eyes in dark purple (probably 20mm, though these might be 18mm), her original lingerie, and a hoodie set by Nine9Style, which is currently sold out (but you can still get it from some dealers, like Peak's Woods).

Personally, I believe the sign of an excellent face-up artist is that you can feel comfortable sending them a head that needs a new look with little to no instructions, and ask the artist to do whatever strikes his or her fancy. Leah Lilly did just that for Megu.

You can see Megu's original look below--which is actually her original hand-painted look from Volks. What a difference! (She is a standard Volks model SD10 from 2004--quite old in BJD terms.)

F03 (also old F-05) SD10

F03 by alington
F03, a photo by alington on Flickr.
My girl is back and has a gorgeous new face-up by Leah Lilly. She's a sleeping version of Volks' Four Sisters sculpt (Megu, Nana, Kira, Sara--they all share the same face) on a very old SD10 body, which I found on the marketplace.

The body needs a little work still, but I'm thrilled with the face-up.

Iplehouse Audrey

She's here--and I forgot to post about her arrival.

You can see my box opening photos and some redressing photos on Flickr.

Audrey is an nYID Iplehouse girl in white skin with make-up style C. She has the medium bust. I think she's lovely.

BJD Design by MegannArt

Among many other SD-sized BJD outfits by MegannArt designs, this outfit seems to be gaining popularity.  Check out the cute sage colored tank top with lace trim at the shoulder, floral print skirt, and matching necklace with a pink flower bead.  The outfit will likely fit a variety of SD, SD13, and SD16 sized dolls.  Get it while you can from the Etsy shop, because it will sell out fast!

Want some special designs for your dolls?  MegannArt provides lots of dolly attire and a pattern book for DIY designs.  Support an artist!  Visit the website (MegannArt) for an Etsy shop, Twitter, Facebook (with occasional discounts), Pinterest page, and much more.

Attention - European readers!

Hello, my dear European readers,

I've been working on my next book, working title is currently A Little More BJDs for Beginners, and I'm revising my list of current doll dealers and doll companies. It's with a heavy heart that I just saw that Mikka's Dollhouse is going out of business. I did see that she has all her current inventory listed at fantastic prices, however, and she ships to all European countries.

If you're a fan of Berdine Creedy, Doll in Mind, Bo Bergemann, DollnDoll, or Fantasy Doll, go check out her store. And be sure to check out the good prices on wigs, too--some are listed at 50% off, and I think you guys may be able to save some taxes and the like.

While I'm on the subject... what else would you be interested in as I'm updating a list of doll companies? I'm adding the price range, doll quality and notes (according to feedback I've personally had and also what I'm reading from owners), company communication and shipping times, and how and where you can order. Is there anything else you'd be interested in knowing in a great, grand list of dolls?

I'm actually thinking of contacting each company as well--to see if they'd like to let me know something special about their dolls.
