Experimenting with Hybrids

BJD hybrids are always a great way to get a fabulous custom doll all your own, but when different parts of the doll come from different doll companies, finding a skintone match can be difficult.  Also, the age of the resin can be an issue.  After a good amount of research and searching for the right body, I decided to give my Peak's Woods normal skin Rogita head a Doll Chateau normal pink skin body (Y-03 girl body).  The body and head were slightly different in color, but a little body blushing blending the two together quite well and it's hard to even see the difference in photos.

Doll Chateau makes great exaggerated bodies with all kinds of extra joints.  I took the wrist and neck pieces out, but I love the doll this way.  What do you think?

Consider experimenting with doll bodies and heads.  It can be quite fun.

Janus Miho hybrid is here!

Thanks to Den of Angels (for the body) and Migidoll for their amazing head event, I was able to put this fantastic hybrid together.

Janus Miho (with standard makeup, if you can believe it) is a Migidoll, Type A normal skin head. I originally fell in love with his quirky little smirk at Migidoll's booth at the KBJD show--and I don't know what kept me from buying his there--but more than likely, it's because I didn't own any large boys at the time. He's an M-series limited edition head; it's unfortunate, since he's so cool--but check out the other sculpts they have! Migi has a style all their own--with amazing face ups! (Migidoll was formerly known as Cherish Doll, I believe.)

His body is actually by Doll-Leaves. This Chinese company has disappointed me in the past with a couple tiny dolls of theirs I have owned--due to stringing issues and my own impatience--never because of quality or customer service. I found a 60cm male body for sale on Tumblr and also on Den of Angels for a good price--and the seller had former used this body as a hybrid for a Type A normal Migi head. I thought this would probably work for my guy, too! We even ended up being able to trade, which went perfectly.

The body works well, and I'm thrilled. I have another set of photos to upload, but I'm too excited no to share the first good one before the day's first nap.

The dolly shuffle!

Flowne by alington
Flowne, a photo by alington on Flickr.
It's time to play the dolly shuffle!

I've recently come across two of my ultimate grail BJDs--tan Goldie and tan Wake-Up Goldie from the GoGa convention in 2009, I think. I've been able to purchase Goldie, and I have WU Goldie on lay-away. Help me pay her off even sooner by checking out my for-sale items on Den of Angels!

I have lots of great stuff for sale, including my Human Flowne hybrid for $300 (or just her head for $120).

You might have a problem...

Lady Bee and Rex by alington

... if your BJDs not only have custom laser-cut chairs, but also start adopting cats.

Ack!

We have now decided whose person Rex's is, at least. I think he has chosen Lady Bee. You can see their entire introduction on Flickr.

My son pointed out to me that he technically still needs a litter box. We shall see. (Did I mention my oldest son is 14, and full of... incredible ideas?)

Lady Bee hybrid

Lady Bee hybrid by alington

One of the cool things about BJDs is the ability to make hybrid dolls. Doll Chateau Erica wasn't getting much attention at my house lately, so I decided to try a quick hybrid--her willowy body and Peak's Woods Lady Bee's head.

Both are white resin--Kid and Fairy of Bugs size--and a pretty good match for color and size. Lady Bee now has an amazing ability to pose and a brand new look. Her wardrobe is a little limited, however.

For me, though, it's like having a brand new doll. You can see her photoshoot on Flickr.

Isn't she gorgeous?

A quick shot of Peak's Woods Kisha/Dollmore Glamour Bust Model Doll F body hybrid, normal skin--she's quite well endowed.

Here, she's wearing a DollHeart wig, and squeezing into a very stretchy dress (EID size) by Iplehouse.

Stella a la vintage Barbie

Stella hybrid by alington

You can check out a few more photos of lovely Stella--my Iplehouse/Feeple65 hybrid on Flickr, if you like.

I'm finding I just love this doll. I'm not in love with Fairyland's knees, however. But I think Stella's face more than makes up for them!

She's dressed in a vintage Barbie-style swim suit by Beach Girl Nikita (I just love her) and a Leeke World wig.

The lovely Doll in Mind Flowne--a hybrid version on a white skin Iplehouse JID body--dressed in a OOAK dress by My Own Little World and a Peak's Woods wig and Mint on Card glass eyes.

I think she's just too cute.

Hybrid heaven...

My morphing collection by alington
My morphing collection, a photo by alington on Flickr.
Oh, there's something especially satisfying (to me) about a hybrid BJD. Even when the resin colors don't match perfectly, I do love it when the dolls come together perfectly.

Front and center, it's Peak's Woods gorgeous (and rarely seen) white skin Viyol (with a special Glamour face-up (by Peak's Woods, when they were still offering custom face-ups). She's been placed on a white skin Zaoll body by Dollmore. This elegant body is slim and short, perfect for Peak's Woods demure and sweet faces.

It's quiet a stark contrast to her rock 'n' roll outfit, which partly belongs to Kisha (also by Peak's Woods, created by Corona, I believe), with the shirt by Beach Girl Nikita. Her boots, wig, and choker are from DollHeart, and earring from Tonner Doll.

Dollmore Lukia Sky/Peak's Woods FOB hybrid

More hybrids in progress... this is my Dollmore Lukia head on a Peak's Woods Fairy of Bugs body. The resin is a pretty good match, especially since the PW body is a little older.

She is wearing the DollHeart dress Strawberry Garden, and also stockings, necklace, boots and wig by DollHeart (all from a Fukuburo). You can see my Viyol (PW) hybrid in the background in the turquoise wig, and also Yeru the Soul, both in Val Zeitler outfits.

Yami is back!

Bride's Wish by alington
Bride's Wish, a photo by alington on Flickr.
Vampire Yami by Peak's Woods is back--I know, I'm terrible--in my collection. Here she is on a Soom Gem body, which is actually pretty green. And not from my wall, either. Instead of yellowing, this white resin has greened. I've heard of this happening to resin (Luts resin, I think), but I haven't seen it before.

I think I'll try some sanding and see if this helps. Otherwise... well, I don't know. I believe the body came from a damp climate, so perhaps this is what causes the greenish tinge. I'll keep you posted. But it's pretty irritating to look at, I have to admit.

Yami sure is yummy, however. You can see more of her delicious Bride's Wish (in stock at the Doll Peddlar) School of Vambane DollHeart outfit on Flickr.

Viyol Hybrid

Viyol Hybrid by alington
Viyol Hybrid, a photo by alington on Flickr.
The lovely Viyol in a brand new dress by jennygrey designs--Viyol is trying out a new look. She is a hybrid today: using her own Peak's Woods head and hands, and a Dollmore Zaoll body (white skin--just a little too white for her). (Jen takes commissions on this style of knit bodice, chiffon outer later dress, and she has many fabric choices, as well. Drop her a line through her Etsy shop!)

The neck is a very nice fit, and the body is a bit shorter and slimmer than regular Peak's Woods bodies, giving her a petite look. (She stands about 52cm tall.) She looks really cute next to her taller sisters, especially next to Super Lavin. I still need to work on her body's stringing, however--it's a little loose for my taste, and has trouble standing as solidly as Peak's Woods bodies do (right out of the box).

Super Lavin

Super Lavin by alington
Super Lavin, a photo by alington on Flickr.
Another update on my Peak's Woods/Soom Super Gem Lavin hybrid... and some really, really bad news for me: I fell for Volks!

Here's how it happened: I was checking out the latest Dolpa online last Saturday, and after being frustrated I couldn't get the items I'd intended, I happened upon this gorgeous SD16 size dress. I'd just heard from Ms. Cholong that SD16 and Super Gem are pretty close to the same size, so I thought I'd take a chance.

My intention was just to try it on.

Oh dear. I love it.

You might notice I still haven't fixed Lavin's neck. In the larger photo, you may notice her Peak's Woods hands. I wasn't a fan of Super Gem's super man hands. But I'm used to these smaller more delicate Peak's Woods girls, too.
